Tobe Nwigwe, Purpose Led Rapper Sells Out in Dallas

Who is Tobe Nwigwe you ask? His lyrics are beautifully laced with mind-blowing metaphors on top of even more mind-blowing metaphors that inspire and uplift everyone who listens and let me not forget the dope, banging beats. Tobe is a spirit-filled young (31), first generation African (Nigerian) American from Houston, TX. Standing in a line wrapped all the way around to the back of the building, we anxiously waited to be blessed by the lyrical genius. How befitting to be playing at the venue where Erykah Badu’s band always plays, especially because she called Tobe Nwigwe, DOPE! We chatted with the nearby concert goers asking questions like, “When did you first hear about Tobe Nwigwe?” Many of the responses were similar in words, “Just recently” or “Over the summer” and I reflected on my first time, which was over the summer when I heard, Day Ones, at first, I thought it was a parody but was like, this is too dope. I kept listening to the lyrics. It wasn’t until my faux beau kept sending me his videos every Sunday and him tagging me in it when I realized that this man and his people were truly gifted. I continued to listen and then it hit me, this man is not cursing nor does he use perverted lyrics to poison the people. In fact, it was graced with spiritual lyrics. I had no idea what to expect when I went to the concert, I hadn’t seen any of my friends post videos or talk about Tobe Nwigwe since that first song over the summer, so I was hoping for a small, intimate crowd. So I was shocked to see the line circling the block. However, I was so excited about the success. It wasn’t until later in the show that I found out that they sold out the venue with 1200 people in Dallas. It was an all-ages show and it was exciting to see the families there. The show opened with a young talented man, Luke Whitney, from Beaumont, TX. When we saw this small in stature white man, grace the stage with an acoustic guitar letting us know that he was from a small town in Texas, most people were not phased, in reality, they were not here for it! When he began to sing, all the mouths dropped and shock plagued the crowd. That man can SANNGGGG. His soulful sultry voice had all the women swaying their hips. Immediately, I logged into Instagram and followed him! Small following but HUGE impact! You are going to want to get familiar with him! It was around 9 pm and the crowd became restless and began chanting Tobe, Tobe, Tobe! I was ready! Everyone wanted to hear TOBE! Tobe came on, it was dark, you could see his silhouette and it was breathtaking. He opened up and I felt like I was in an 80’s early 90’s hip hop set! (I hardly get out) Tobe connected with the crowd in a way I have never seen. People were rapping along with him, actively engaged in call and response and hands rocked side to side, I was in awe. Dallas event though was extra special! It was his 1st anniversary with his wife, Fat! Almost in every song, he shouts her out! She graces the videos and songs with her beautifully dope presence, vocals and dancing! Their relationship is beautiful and I would say, “Relationship Goals” when you hear lyrics or him saying how spiritual she is and how she prays for this man, speaks life into him and when he is always bragging and giving her honor, that is indeed relationship goals. Throughout the show, there were videos from people wishing them a happy anniversary, some of my favorites was Yvonne Orji and Kev on Stage! Yvonne Orji is so hilarious! He also gave her 5 dozen roses between different sets and had a live artist painting in honor of their anniversary! It was beautiful.

I had the most amazing Sunday night rocking to the amazing beats dripping with lyrics that promoted purpose, living a spirit-filled life following God, and love! I went home on a high… I wasn’t smoking HOWEVER, there were people in the venue getting high so I may have had contact lol! But I believe it was the music If you are not following Tobe Nwigwe, I encourage you to listen to his music, and not just listen but really hear what he is saying! It is so safe for your children! Reaping What We Sow: Haggai Calls to Prioritize God’s Kingdom

Studying Haggai made me reflect on making sure I prioritize God’s Kingdom instead of what I can do with my own power and knowledge. In the scriptures, Haggai prioritized their luxury homes while the Lord’s temple lay in ruins. This is 18 years after returning to the Holy Land out of exile. These people were…
