Journaling has become my safe place to unleash and unlock thoughts and feelings stored away by everyday life. If you have been following me, you know that I promote journaling as a way for clarifying, processing, reflecting, and planning. I recently began micro-journaling and wanted to share how to do that as well as other ways to journal!
What is Micro-Journaling
Micro-Journaling is basically a snapshot or a photo of your thoughts in the moment! Imagine taking a photo of a moment that brought you so much joy, although one photo, it holds so many thoughts, feelings, and memories. That is how I see micro-journaling but just with words. These words are snippets of a moment that you want to remember forever. I micro-journal to help me keep track of my emotions, develop self-awareness, and create a sense of balance in my life. However, it could also be used to reflect on your daily activities and the events you encounter, allowing you to gain a greater understanding of yourself and your life. It helps you to be mindful of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
Reasons Why I Love Micro-Journaling
- Micro-Journaling is NOT intimidating, no huge blank page to fill out
- Micro-Journaling is great for those on the go moments and busy people that want to journal
- Micro-Journaling is poetic and can be aesthetically beautiful it can also help with poetry!
- Micro-Journaling allows me to be mindful of little moments that mean a lot to me
- Micro-Journaling is a way for me to be creative in an easy way
Here Are 10 Ways You Could Do It
- Words/Phrases– I have been doing my morning Bible Study and as I study, words and phrases pop out to me and I jot those down in my little tiny journal. Then I write my thoughts about what I think it means or what it means for me in my life.
- People You Connect With– We meet a lot of people and sometimes there are ones that just stand out to you so much that they leave a mark. What is that mark? How did they engage with you? Why do you think you met that person? How can this interaction help you as a person?
- Descriptions of Art– Art is everywhere, the pink flower swaying in the wind, the smile on the chubby baby’s face, the cracks on the sidewalk… Describe a sight that just makes you stop dead in your tracks.
- Food That Makes Your Mouth Water– Food is a love language, and when you experience something that makes your mouth have fireworks, you should reflect on it and where you were and who you were with.
- Little Life Lessons– Maybe you learned something from watching two people argue or the interaction you had with the groundskeeper, write that little life lesson so that you can apply it and tell others.
- The Little Things– Similar to a gratitude journal, reflect on the little things that you encountered during the day that just blessed your soul.
- Scriptures– Write scriptures in your own words, this will help us understand and keep it in our hearts and minds
- Memories– This can be specific to a certain person, place, or thing or it can be broad where when a memory pops up, you can jot it down and the feelings and thoughts that you have about it
