From Cacophony to Symphony | Daily Devotional

Imagine walking into a daycare where all the kids were jumping off the walls. Kids are screaming, throwing things, fighting for toys, crying, and more. Quite the cacophony. This would drive me insane and avoid going there at all times. Imagine if you walked into a church, and the adults demonstrated the same thing. They were arguing over what songs to sing, talking about what someone wore, how the message was not great, or whatever quarrels churches have, that would be maddening. But of course, churches don’t do that, right?!?!

They may not be fighting per se, but many times, because everyone is an individual with their own goals, interests, and talents, sometimes things just don’t go their way. But that is not the goal in Christianity, we are not to be fixated on just what we want and what we can do and think that it is the right way every time. Yes, we can use our gifts for the building of the Kingdom, but that is it, BUILDING OF THE KINGDOM… that is our common goal, to build the Kingdom but how can we do that when everyone wants to do it in their own way or they have certain beliefs or think that certain sins are worse than others and condemn rather than encourage.

In 1 Thes 5:11, it says, Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. If we were condemning, and showing hatred to one another, then how can we build the Kingdom, quite the cacophony. It’s important to read this verse in context, starting with the beginning. The reason we are building the Kingdom is to grow believers so that they can be prepared for Jesus’ return. We shouldn’t be the ones that cause our brothers and sisters to stumble, because the judgment is real (Luke 17:1-2). Jesus’ return will come like a thief in the night and we want to make sure our sisters and brothers stay ready, to make sure they have enough oil in their lamps!

We must work together so that no one gets left behind. We do not want a cacophony, we want a symphony where everyone uses their skills, gifts, and talents to build the Kingdom. Supporting one another, as we all go along this Christian journey. We are all in one accord. Did you know that in a full orchestra, there are 80-100 people? Imagine if everyone decided to do their own thing, play what they want to play, the madness.

Journal Prompts

As you continue your Christian journey, how can you support your fellow brothers and sisters? What have you done before?

How can you make sure that you are open to encouragement and support from others and do not take offense?

How do you turn a wild noisy cacophony into a beautifully melodic symphony where it is music to the ears and not wild noise?

My challenge to you is to examine your skills, gifts, and talents and how you can use that to continue building the Kingdom, we do not want anyone left behind.

Prayer

Father in heaven, there is just so much noise that separates us from each other but you call us to love others as we love ourselves. You call us to encourage and edify our brothers and sisters. I pray that you show me ways to turn down the noise and to be used to make beautiful music that is like honey to our ears. I pray that you show me ways to encourage others so that no one gets left behind. Encourage me to turn a cacophony into a symphony.

Reaping What We Sow: Haggai Calls to Prioritize God’s Kingdom

Studying Haggai made me reflect on making sure I prioritize God’s Kingdom instead of what I can do with my own power and knowledge. In the scriptures, Haggai prioritized their luxury homes while the Lord’s temple lay in ruins. This is 18 years after returning to the Holy Land out of exile. These people were…
