What Is the National Black Film Festival:
A 4-day festival featuring workshops, panels, screening and more lead by film professionals from across the nation.
Who Is In It:
This years lineup includes actor Wesley Jonathan, director Trey Haley, casting director Natasha Ward just to name a few. Our 2019 festival will also feature a 3-day marketplace, monologue slam, the All Black Masquerade party and the NBFF 2019 Awards Show.
Background:
The NBFF was founded by film producer J.O. Malone with an initiative to build an enlightening platform for future filmmakers and actors. Another primary goal of the NBFF is to stimulate the production of more high quality films in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area-mapping the city as a major cinematic outlet. NBFF acts as a bridge to connect industries professionals and those upcoming together with 4-days of education, empowerment and entertainment.

Wesley Jonathan
Actor
Born in Los Angeles, Jonathan spent four years living in Germany as a youth and still speaks some German. He first became interested in show business when his cousin Crystal brought him along on her acting auditions. At age nine, he asked his cousin to let him audition, and within six months got his first role, a small part in the television series “21 Jump Street.” When he’s away from the set, Wesley enjoys basketball, volleyball and swimming. He has also performed as a singer, rapper and hip-hop dancer with a group he formed with his friends.

Dana Boisseau

Dana Boisseau-New Orleans, La native- got her start at 20 years old after graduating from a local hair school. She later received her Master’s in Cosmetology and graduated Valedictorian of her class from Dudley Cosmetology College in North Carolina . Upon graduation she was offered an internship with a Dudley Salon in Atlanta and a spot on the Dudley Product Company Team. After spending a year in Atlanta treating cancer and alopecia patients with hair replacement units and styling, Dana returned home to pursue her dream of Styling for movies. Six months after returning home, Hollywood came calling! Her first movie, Ray, with Jamie Fox opened the door to a 15 year career, with over 60 movies and TV shows as an accomplished Department Head. She has styled for actors such as Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Cooley, Lenny Kravits and many more. She also is the founder of TFH (Television Film Hair) Academy. It is the first movie hair school in the Southern region! She believes in giving back to her community by offering movie hair education and internships to local hair school students interested in theatre and movie hair styling.

Roni Brown is a professional script consultant. Having read for major screenplay contest for over 10 years, she helps writers through every step of the script writing process with an insider perspective on what the major contest, producers and productions companies want from a screenplay.
Ms. Brown has worked freelance in production for networks such as ABC, Adult Swim, TLC, NBC and more. Over the span of 9 years she has worked on such projects as America’s Got talent, Miami Ink, SpaceBalls! The Animated Series, and Black Dynamite the animated series on Adult Swim.

Greg Carter
Director
Greg is a native of Houston, Texas and a graduate of Texas A&M University. After studying under Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Charles Gordone, Greg Studied film at Rice’s prestigious School of Visual and Dramatic Arts under Professor Brian Huberman with producer Elizabeth Avellan (Robert Rodriguez’s partner at Troublemaker Studios). Recognized along with director Richard Linklater with an Institutional grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for programs at the MFAH. Respected SXSW Film Festival alumni. Gregory also studied screen-writing with Academy Award winning writer/producer Pamela Wallace as well as writer/directors John Lee Hancock, Bill Witliff and Tim McCanlies. Greg was presented the Independent Sprit Award and inducted into the Texas Filmmakers Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the 2006 Spindletop Film Festival at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Other inductees included writer Bill Witliff and actress Irma P. Hall.
