Of course, when I am close to the end, I decided to document the bible studies via YouTube! So here we are in the middle of Ezekiel. I also did not do it chapter by chapter but by what stood out to me.

Exploring Ezekiel: A Bible Study Series
Welcome to our YouTube Bible study series on the Book of Ezekiel! This profound and often challenging book of the Old Testament offers a rich tapestry of visions, prophecies, and teachings that are as relevant today as they were in ancient times. Grab your Bibles, notebooks, and pens as we dive deep into the context, background, themes, and key figures of Ezekiel. Be prepared to explore and reflect on God’s word in a transformative way.
Context and Background
Ezekiel was a prophet and priest during one of the most tumultuous times in Israel’s history. Born around 622 BC, he lived during the Babylonian exile, a period when the Jewish people were forcibly removed from their homeland and taken to Babylon. This exile was a pivotal moment in Jewish history, and Ezekiel’s ministry occurred during this time of crisis and upheaval.
Ezekiel’s prophetic ministry began in 593 BC and continued for at least 22 years. He was among the first wave of exiles taken to Babylon in 597 BC, and his prophecies span from the years before the final destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC to several years afterward. The book bearing his name is divided into three major sections: prophecies against Judah and Jerusalem, prophecies against foreign nations, and visions of restoration and hope for Israel.
Themes in Ezekiel
- God’s Sovereignty: Ezekiel consistently emphasizes that God is in control, even when circumstances seem dire. His visions often depict God’s throne and the heavenly court, underscoring divine authority over all creation.
- Judgment and Justice: The book vividly portrays the consequences of Israel’s disobedience and idolatry. Ezekiel does not shy away from detailing the severe judgment that God brings upon His people for their sins.
- Hope and Restoration: Despite the grim prophecies of destruction, Ezekiel also brings messages of hope. He speaks of a future restoration where God will gather His people back to their land, give them a new heart, and establish an everlasting covenant with them.
- The Glory of God: The recurring theme of God’s glory is depicted in Ezekiel’s visions, particularly the magnificent vision of God’s chariot-throne in chapter 1. God’s glory departing from and returning to the temple highlights His holiness and presence among His people.
Key Figures
- Ezekiel: The central figure, a priest turned prophet, who acts as God’s mouthpiece during the exile. His dramatic and symbolic actions are meant to convey God’s messages to a rebellious people.
- The Exiles: The Jewish people in Babylon, who are the primary audience of Ezekiel’s prophecies.
- The Elders of Israel: Often coming to Ezekiel for a word from the Lord, they represent the leadership of the exiled community.

- In what ways can the visions of God’s glory and sovereignty in Ezekiel strengthen your faith and trust in God’s plan?
- How do the messages of restoration and the promise of a new heart speak to your personal spiritual journey?
Engage with the material, take notes, and don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and questions in the comments section of our videos. Let’s embark on this journey together, allowing the Spirit to illuminate the powerful messages in the Book of Ezekiel. Happy studying!
