Artists On The Move: Chantae’ Vetrice

Welcome back to Artists on the Move! Here we feature amazing and talented artists from music to visual art and more! If you are interested in being featured, fill out this form and then email once you have submitted it!

This week we are featuring Chantae’ Vetrice. Chantae’ Vetrice is a HipHop/Pop recording artist based in New York, NY. Although she is a city girl…she considers herself a citizen of the world. Having lived overseas in Europe for 2 years and now back in the U.S., she is gearing up to release her second single. With a sound reminiscent of a Gwen Stefani mixed with a lil Janet Jackson & Prince, her vocals are sure to intrigue. Not only is she musically inclined, but she is also working on producing her own t.v. show where she will showcase other talents in the music industry. As she always says, “You ain’t gotta get ready if you stay ready,” and there’s enough out here for us all to eat! A lover of the arts, all things weird, and a supporter of women…get familiar with Chantae’ Vetrice! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

How did you get started? What was your motivation?

I grew up in a musical family and I discovered music at a very young age…around the age of 5 or so. I was constantly singing, writing, or drawing. Throughout life I continued on my musical journey and it led me to ATL where I’ve worked with some of the industry’s best and had the opportunity to build solid relationships that I have to this day.

Despite all of the strategy and hard work it takes to make it happen, my mother is what motivates me. I want to give her the world. She struggled to turn me into the woman I am today and I will die trying to repay her for all she’s done. A strong, black woman raised me and she is a queen.

What have been some challenges on your journey? How did you handle them?

Being a woman of color in this business is hard…believe it or not.. and I do believe that we have to work ten times harder than others to catch attention or just be given a shot. However, I continue to push forward and remain true to myself. I am constantly evolving my sound, image, and always learning! There’s a method to this madness and I’m all for it! I won’t let something so insignificant stop me from my destiny.

What has been one of your most memorable experiences on this journey and why?

When I got a call from well-known photographer and friend of mine, Delphine Diallo, that Swizz Beats wanted to use an image of me that she took for his NoCommission art tour in partnership with Bacardi. My face was on thousands of Bacardi bottles worldwide for his art tour. He and I eventually met up at Art Basel in Miami for the event. It was epic being able to speak with him. He is someone that I look up to and he has been a source of encouragement for me, personally, today. He’s a great person.

This industry is heavily saturated, how do you set yourself apart from others?

I have built my brand and remained consistent. Have I had a bit of luck in meeting certain people? Yes, absolutely! But I know that my personality and style is unique…it speaks for itself. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. 😉

Who are some of your major influences that helped you with your journey?

I’ve always admired Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani, and Prince.

What tips or advice would you give to someone who wants to take a path similar to yours?

Be open to criticism, never stop learning, and make sure this is something that you can’t live without because this business will chew you up and spit you out at some point. You need to remain resilient and strong. It’s not for the faint of heart. Make sure this is your passion…not just a hobby.

What are some new things you have learned about yourself along this journey?

That I can tolerate a lot of B.S. I’m not superwoman but I’m much stronger than I ever thought I could be.

What are you working on now?

I am working on my EP right now and about to release my second single. We are in COVID times so, the industry has changed and a lot has come to a halt but I am maneuvering in different ways with my team to make it happen. I am hoping to release the single by Fall 2020 along with a music video/teaser.

How can people support you?

Please follow my social media, subscribe to my youtube channel, and stream my music which is available on ALL MAJOR PLATFORMS.

Anything else you would like to add?

BE YOU, STAY STRONG, AND NEVER CHANGE FOR ANYONE OR ANYTHING.
