Earlier today, my friend reached out to me. We chatted a bit and then she asked me what does She Sit At His Feet mean? I got excited because I got to share my faith in such a simple way. She told me once that she was spiritual but not religious so I didn’t know what all she knew about the Bible, so I said, “There is this scripture where a woman named Mary, whose sister is Martha, was sitting at Jesus’ feet soaking in His presence listening to Him speak. Her sister Martha got frustrated and said, Jesus, tell my sister to help me and Jesus replied she has chosen the better part.” I didn’t go into much detail other than that, but I got to share what the title of my blog meant. Then I thought, I don’t think I explained what the name meant. So here we are and I am so excited to share my testimony.
Mary became my example of how to be a scholar of the word. She had it good too, Jesus sat in her house and she got to sit at His feet and soak in all of that amazing word!
Snippet from the She Sits At His Feet 30-Day Challenge
If you follow my blog or YouTube channel, you would know there has been some major upgrades due to my time sitting at His feet. You will know I was given this time after I closed my bookstore and God told me to just chill. I found myself reading His Word, then studying the Word, and then ultimately letting the Word change me.
I had a new morning routine, which called to sit at His feet, and every time, God met me and I soaked in His presence. It changed my life. It is funny what happens when you spend so much time with someone they begin to rub off on you and then you begin to sound like them and look like them. Then you begin to do the things they do and that is what happened with me.
At first, when I first closed the store, I had planned on resurrecting my blog and being a content creator, but then as I continued to sit at His feet, my desires began to shift. I felt the pull to do more faith-based content. My posts slowly transitioned. Then I was like I am all in! Then I felt the conviction in my name, Bougie Black Blogger. I no longer was that girl, and I don’t think I really was her to begin with. I was like what shall I call the blog? Then it came to me, I was led to teach women and young folks to live boldly for Christ and how do you do that if you do not sit at His feet DAILY? You really can’t! So to sit at His feet, learning, abiding, and strengthening your relationship with the Father is a must in every Christian’s life.
Think about it, the word is SIT, not SAT… sit is present action, something you are doing not did. You cannot meet someone once and know all about them. If you want a true relationship with Christ, you must meet not only daily but throughout the day. You will crave it, you will want to but the enemy will through things your way to stop you but you have to fight for your relationship with Christ.
So what are you doing when you Sit At His Feet
- You are praying in the Spirit- deep, unrushed, intentional prayer time for self and others
- You are worshipping in Spirit and Truth- the music, your praise, your adoration, your reverence, your gratitude all day everyday
- You are studying the Word- not just reading a few scriptures and going about your day, you have a pen and a notebook or your computer, you have your highlighter and other materials so you can complete your SOAP, Verse Mapping, Character Study, Topic Study, I have no idea what you are studying but that is what you are studying
- You are serving others- at your job, on the street, wherever you are, the Light of Jesus is in you and whatever you do you represent Him so make sure those that come into contact with you recognize and can be blessed by the Light
- You are sharing your testimony- you know God has been so GOOOOD to you share that, help others grow their faith
- You are teaching and being a disciple- whether it’s your family, the children, people on the street, you are to go and make disciples, baptism and teach what was commanded of you
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:38-42

Prayer
Father God, thank you for the opportunity to sit at your feet, soak in your presence, and deepen our relationship. I pray that I can have more time to spend with you, unrushed, so that I can gain wisdom and knowledge and strengthen our relationship. Please help me to remove things that are unnecessary because you are so worthy of all the glory and honor and praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
