Journaling Is…
Journaling is a form of therapy. Imagine having a horrible day at work and because you want to keep your job, you keep some things left unsaid. Write it out, say what you want to say, feel free, and move on living your best life.
Journaling is a memory keeper. How many of you have diaries from your young days talking about all kinds of crazy things? Have you read them? Do you laugh?
Journaling shows change. Maybe you want to keep track of your moods and lifestyle changes. Maybe you want to see growth from you as a 25 year till 35, making sure you document everything
However you use your journal, remember it is a tool that can help you in so many ways!
So let me introduce you to the 10-7-5-3 Reflection Journal Model! Remember I am a professional educator, so I am always implementing strategies to help my students be their best selves in academics and life in general
When you think about journaling, it doesn’t have to be an extensive amount of time. It can be short and to the point. However, you still may not know what to write.

10– The number of minutes you set your timer to! Don’t stop writing until that timer finishes. Don’t know what to write, well…
7– The number of things you thought about frequently that day or the night before. Could be people, events, your work, the things you have to do, things you want to do. What about those things?
5- The number of feelings or thoughts you have towards those things. Maybe a thing on your list is the doctor’s appointment you have to set up and you are nervous for so many reasons. Maybe your list has a book that you want to read and you are excited about this author because they have so many raving reviews. So many thoughts and feelings, what to do with it next?
3- The number of questions you still have or profound insights that you stumbled across as you began your journaling introspection Maybe this will open more doors of introspection and get you writing longer than 10 minutes!
Easy right? Journaling and reflecting doesn’t have to be this huge mind-altering and life-changing event, it can be easy as writing your to-do list or calling someone.
I find that journaling right before bed is so helpful in ways such as a stress reliever- getting all those thoughts out on paper so you can get a good night’s rest. It also has a calming effect and helps to officially close the day. But you find your flow and style!
